5 tips to add a personal touch to your rental space
There’s no worse feeling than your rental…looking like a rental. It’s important to make every space you have feel like your own. Adding a little personality to your home doesn’t have to cost you a fortune, and we’ll show you how.
Know the basic rules
Different landlords have different rules. Some won't let you change the color of the walls. Others are against new lighting fixtures. But before you write off your dream plan, ask your landlord if you can make a few changes. Often, they don't care if you apply a new coat of neutral paint, and that can make all the difference in the world of your design plans. Finding the ground rules will allow you to organize your dream renovation much better.
Change those curtains.
A small change can make a big difference and the curtains is a prime example of this. Choose curtains with floral pattern if you want something that stands out or choose a solid color that will create a great backdrop for your furniture. Curtains are an investment that you can take with you when you move, so it's worth spending a little more money on something you'll really like.

Cover the ugly floor with rugs
One of the most common complaints about rentals is ugly floors. Replacing carpet is a big job, as is starting fresh with new hardwood floors. Fortunately, rugs offer a creative middle ground. They are generally inexpensive and provide a great opportunity to add a bit of color to a room. If you want wall-to-wall carpet, try layering a large, neutral-colored rug to cover as much of the furniture as possible.

Bring some life to your space with greenery
The pots with plants or flowers can easily add a new element of fun to your rental home. In fact, they tend to create a more relaxing environment. Plus, fake greenery is easy to maintain and move with you. These items tend to look best when they're all together, so dedicate an area of your home to greenery.

Invest in some pillows that stand out
Just because your apartment came with an old couch doesn't mean your living room has to stay shabby. Get some funky pillows or throw pillows and add some life to your living room. Good quality fabrics and throws may cost a little more, but they add comfort and texture to your space, so they're worth the extra cost.
